Risk Management Specialist ™
The San Diego Association of REALTORSŪ, a pioneer in real estate risk management, has created a Risk Management Specialist ™ Program (RMS) that is designed as the next step in risk management products to help REALTORSŪ and brokers protect their bottom lines. The RMS Program is a new certification, created by local real estate and legal experts, to help REALTORSŪ enhance their industry knowledge, execute better transactions and reduce their exposure to risk. The foundation of the RMS certification is the completion of a course of study that focuses on risk mitigation. All courses are DRE-approved and accredited and are offered through SDAR's Legal Department.
To be considered a candidate as well as maintain the Risk Management Specialist ™ certification, the program participants must maintain membership in good standing with the National Association of REALTORSŪ (NAR). Before applying for membership, the program candidates must also complete the Conquering Contracts course, a two-and-a-half-day course taught by expert real estate attorneys. This course presents the ins and outs of the real estate contracts from listing to closing, including the most current residential purchase agreement and commonly used addendums. Due to constant changes of the purchase contract and new addendum additions, this course or an approved update course must be completed again at least once every two years. The Risk Management Specialist ™ certification consists of an additional 10 courses that must be completed within a two year period.
This course of study is constantly revised to maintain its purpose of bringing REALTORSŪ with timely and relevant information and help them reduce liability through practical education.
